Our Story
GoldenSilverPaper was born out of a passion to share with the modern generation on the significance and richness of Chinese customs and traditions. Whether people believe or understand the rituals, many still observed the practices. Thus, our one-stop online store serves the needs of busy professionals with our hassle-free pre-packaged options and delivery right to the doorstep.
It is our hope to make observing traditions accessible, share our appreciation for our roots and play a part in #PreservingHeritage.
Why We Observe Traditions
Remembrance
Chinese places high regard and heavy emphasis on filial piety, and this extends to the afterlife. It’s about making the effort and setting aside time to remember our loved ones, in the manner that you know they would want.
Reverence
The practise of burning joss paper dates back as far as the Six Dynasties (220 - 589 AD) in ancient China. To the believers, the deceased have the same monetary needs as the living. Joss paper is the representation of currency in the netherworld and thus, burning of joss paper helps to provide for the departed and is also a way to venerate the dead.
Respect
Observing traditional practices is a form of paying respects to our Chinese ancestors as well as expressing our love to both the living and the dead. In adhering to the customs, we demonstrate honour and respect to our elders who are still alive by continuing on their behalf the rituals passed down from generation to generation, keeping our cultural identity alive.

现代人或许不相信也不明白各种习俗以及金银纸在我们华族传统的重要性，但为了孝顺父母、或是图个心安，人人也都愿意遵从。

遵守传统的意义
思念故人
百善孝为先。华人非常注重孝道。儒家说：“大孝终身慕父母”，即是说，孝顺亲人不单是生前尽孝，死后祭之也是孝道的延伸。祭拜亲人是一种怀念的体现。百忙之余，在节日时抽空祭拜，抒发对已故亲人的思念。
表达敬意
焚烧金银纸有很深的历史渊源，早在六朝时期（公元220年–589年）就开始有这样的习俗。华人相信，人过世后到了阴间，也需要用钱，而金银纸就是冥界使用的冥币。焚烧金银纸给祖先和亲友，是为了让他们在另一个世界过上好生活。同时，也通过这个仪式向已故的人表达敬意。
尊重长辈
遵守传统习俗，是对祖先和长辈的一种尊敬和爱戴。我们华人自古以来就十分重视祭拜祖先。我们依照老一辈传下來的方式來祭祖，是在延续家族传统和表示对家人的尊重，把这种民 族精神一直世世代代传递下去。
